Breast feeding should be a time of immense physical closeness for mother and baby. However, there are times when stress and anxiety seem to inhibit production of breast milk.

New mothers undergo enormous physical and emotional changes after the birth of their baby. Not only have their bodies undergone a traumatic ordeal giving birth, they now have responsibility for this tiny, helpless infant, dependent upon them for their every need, most importantly, milk.

Baby rice, the perfect weaning food
Starting a baby on solid foods is one of the most important milestones in your baby’s life.

After months of having all their nutritional needs met by their milk, now it’s time for them to explore some of the exciting tastes and textures to be found in real food. But since their digestive systems are still immature, introducing solid foods needs to be done as a gradual process.

The sidecar cocktail is a classic dating back to the 1920s and is enjoying something of a revival on today’s cocktail menus. How the sidecar got its name and its origins are a little hazy. However, it’s generally considered to have been invented for a US army captain in Paris around the time of the First World War.

One day, the captain who was feeling unwell, requested an aperitif before his evening meal. Since brandy was commonly used as a cold remedy, this was used as a base with lemon juice added for its vitamin C content.

Pacific Sunrise
Mixing your own cocktails at home can be a lot of fun. Once you've built up a collection of various ingredients, you can start experimenting and create your own.

Indeed, many cocktails are just slight variations of those already invented. The Pacific sunrise for instance, is very similar to the blue margarita with its exotic deep blue color and ingredients but has the addition of bitters which, while barely detectable, somehow injects a more subtle and interesting flavor.

The Pacific sunrise will always impress your guests and it makes a refreshing cocktail to enjoy on a warm summers day. (to be updated)

The Original SPAM
SPAM®, ‘The miracle meat of a million uses’, has been in existence long before another kind of spam started making its unwelcome intrusion into our email in-boxes.

With more than 122 million cans sold around the world each year, some 90 million in the US alone, the popularity of Spam remains as strong today as it was in its heyday as a wartime staple.

Evaporated milk and Condensed  Milk
Many people are unsure whether there is a difference between evaporated and sweetened milk.

Although they undergo the same initial process, the end product is most definitely not the same. Neither can be used interchangeably, particularly when it comes to cooking.  If you do, your savory dish may well end up as a sickly sweet concoction destined for the rubbish bin.

Evaporated Milk
With the wide range of milk available to us nowadays, it’s easy to overlook evaporated milk.  It was a popular substitute for cream in the 1970s and was often poured over tinned fruit as a dessert.

But as our tastes become more sophisticated over the years it was largely forgotten. However, with shrinking household budgets, evaporated milk is showing a surge in popularity. And it’s not surprising because it’s extremely versatile and there are a multitude of different cooking uses for evaporated milk.
Canned salmon is often purchased as a handy cupboard filler but then bypassed when looking for a quick meal idea. How many times have you opened the cupboard and overlooked the can of salmon because, quite simply, you don't know what to do with it?

The American Heart Association recommends eating two portions of fish a week, one of which should be oily such as salmon. Nutritionally, canned salmon contains all the benefits of fresh fish, including significant amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and nutrients known to improve circulation and boost brain functioning.
